Benefit from integrated software for water-treatment plant design

Treating water often requires more than one technology to achieve the desired quality. Most software for water-treatment plant design does not allow you to optimize multiple-technology systems, requiring separate software and more of your time for setup and management.

Our Water Application Value Engine (WAVE) is the industry’s first fully integrated modeling software program to integrate three of the leading technologies — ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), and ion exchange (IX) — into one comprehensive tool. Using a common interface, it simplifies the design process and ultimately helps reduce the time needed to manage your water-treatment system.

With the new version of WAVE 1.77, you’ll have the convenience of:

  • One intuitive interface for UF, RO, and IX technologies, compatible with Microsoft Windows.
  • Expert modeling tool.
  • Harmonized data for all products and processes.
  • Four language options: English, Chinese, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Integrated software features

In a truly integrated software, modifications made to any operation automatically propagate throughout the system design, whereas other software requires modifications to be manually entered into the feed of the downstream operation.

WAVE is an integrated expert modeling software for water-treatment plant design, including wastewater-treatment plant design, offering:

  • Flexible design using three technologies, with multiple-unit operation combinations, plus the option to specify system-feed or net-product flow rate.
  • A powerful calculation engine with the capacity to run complex designs at high levels of accuracy.
  • Improved water-equilibrium calculations and interface.
  • True mass-balance volumes and flows that reflect changes in density due to temperature, water composition, and water compressibility.
  • Consistent hydraulic constraints and regeneration parameters, which reflect best practices and state-of-the-art product performance and application.
  • Default values for most parameters, allowing you (or your designer) to create a design quickly.
  • The capability to introduce project-specific parameters to increase the accuracy of operating-expense calculations.

Advanced features for UF, RO, and IX technologies

WAVE software for water-treatment plant design includes advanced features for UF, RO, and IX technologies to maximize multi-technology design efficiency.

Ultrafiltration (UF) advanced features include:

  • NEW! WAVE allows to design with mini-CIP chemical cleaning protocol. User can choose three options: “CEB only”, “mini-CIP only” and “CEB and mini-CIP”.
  • NEW! In ultrafiltration, backwash options have been upgraded to consider the required steps for UXA products.
  • The latest UF products, including IntegraFlux™ and IntegraPac™ UF Modules with XP Fiber.
  • Updated design guidelines and pressure rating curves.
  • Membrane integrity testing capabilities.
  • Advanced clean-in-place (CIP) protocols and use of RO concentrate for cleaning.
  • Inputs for advanced design: the ability to specify the pH of chemical solutions used in the maintenance and cleaning protocols, transmembrane pressure (TMP) slopes for BW/CEB/CIP, and design for constant flux vs. constant output.

Reverse osmosis (RO) advanced features include:

  • NEW! Users can now design systems with concentrate stream recycle simultaneously from Pass 2 to Pass 1 and 2.
  • NEW! The reverse osmosis products database has been upgraded to include the new seawater fouling resistant .
  • The latest RO products database with new calculation improvements and products, including FilmTec™ Fortilife™.
  • Improved internally staged design (ISD) capability — each element in a pressure vessel can now be uniquely defined.
  • Split permeate available with ISD.
  • Bypass, pass, and stage level concentrate recycle loops.
  • A new system-level hydraulic-flow calculator.
  • Batch modeling with the possibility of simultaneous-batch-case creation.
  • Design warnings by element position.
  • Pressure-drop reporting.

Ion exchange (IX) advanced features include:

  • NEW! Ion exchange reports have been improved and optimized in order to better reflect customer needs.
  • Harmonized data for all processes and resins.
  • Ability to model multiple IX processes, including softening, dealkalinization, demineralization, RO/IX polishing, and condensate polishing.
  • Multiple IX regeneration schemes, including concurrent, water, or air-blocked packed beds, AmberPack™ IX systems, Upcore™ IX systems, and internal and external mixed beds.

FTNORM (FilmTec’s Normalization of Membrane Systems)

After you have implemented the WAVE software for water-treatment plant design, it’s important that you protect your investment by monitoring the performance of the plant and determining when it’s time for a preventive cleaning cycle, which can enable extended membrane life.

Variations in feedwater temperature, salinity, or pump pressure can influence the apparent productivity and rejection of a membrane system, making it less obvious when a real change in membrane performance has occurred. FTNORM takes away the guesswork by compensating for these variations.
